The exhibition in part of the cultural project MAN – MUSEUM OBJECT (May 1 – October 31), cultural project financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration. Text provided by the exhibition curator: The temporary exhibition History written in BONE aims to promote cultural education among the public, at national and international level, bringing to its attention heritage categories such as hunting trophies, natural history and zooarchaeology. These assets are unknown to the public at their true cultural and scientific value. Museum objects belonging to these categories contribute, among many other uses, to the understanding the human – nature relationship during history, to highlight the natural imbalances produced by humans, exemplifying the positive or negative outcomes of this relationship. The exhibition displays objects from the collections of the History Museum, Natural History Museum and the "August von Spiess" Hunting Museum. One single zooarchaeology heritage object can give us data on: the evolution of the natural environment; morphology of the species to which it belonged, could be an extinct species; biogeographical distribution of the animal's habitat in the past compared to the present one; paleoclimatic conditions of the past; history of animal domestication; human food in the past and how it was acquired, by hunting or farming; human impact on the natural environment; natural resources found in that area during that period; human economy and social development; local social identity; materials used for making utensils, ornaments and objects of worship etc. The opening will be followed, starting with 16 p.m., by open lectures on the topic: - National Zooarheological heritage contribution to the conservation of the natural environment; - The importance of natural history collections, lecture by the president of the NGO Association for Science, Education and Environment MEROPS, Braşov, Mr. Liviu Pripon; - 150 years since the birth of August von Spiess (August 6th 1864 - 1953), lecture by Mrs. Helga Stein PhD, niece of August von Spiess. Lectures will take place at the Natural History Museum, Multimedia Room, Cetăţii Street, no. 1, Tel. 0269/436 545.
