Text from the exhibition curator: Csaba Zemlényi is opening an exhibition inspired by the treasures of art and curiosity cabinets – predecessors of the modern museums. The works on display are done with carefulness in techniques that are similar to the ones used during 16th – 18th c. The world described by the exhibits puts together various objects taken from the environment (naturalia) along products of human talent (artificialia) as art objects, antiquities, technical devices, rare books, ethnographic pieces etc, all impressive due to their shapes, colors, textures, symbolic meanings, all telling the story of human endeavor in discovering nature, assuming it, adapting it to his own needs. Csaba Zemlényi’s work is based on gnosis, mystics, philosophy, alchemy, geometry, the achievements of art and architecture from medieval time to baroque, related literature and 20th c. art experiences (especially surrealism). The artist aims at recreating a centuries past world without altering its mystery but rendering it in close similarity by using organic materials – some of them rare and precious – or by suggesting the passing of time through the perishability of the material and the perennial condition of true values. There are to be found on display works that stand for artist’s activity in illustration; they refer to events and personalities in the 20th century and connect to the present times, asking questions about the future. The on-viewer is free to choose between good and bad or to pass beyond contrasting notions.
