“[Deadline]...at the end of the line...”, an exhibition by Lucian Christian Hamsea and curated by Alexandra Runcan and Alexandru Constantin Chituță, will open on Friday, August 4, at 5:30 p.m., at the Brukenthal National Museum - Museum of Contemporary Art, 6 Tribunei Street.
Lucian Christian Hamsea returns to the Brukenthal National Museum with paintings and graphic works that refer to the horrors of the Holocaust, the unspeakable atrocities and crimes against humanity that, paradoxically, took place in a civilized environment. In this project, the artist recreates a psychological portrait of past realities experienced by the victims of the darkest chapter in the history of the 20th century. His works are not intended to be part of an incriminating indictment, but rather forms of recovery of the victims' memories. The monstrosity of what happened in the extermination camps was, ironically, the instrument of obliteration and denial of a colossal suffering.
The unimaginable dimension of the historical testimonies is visually restored to us in the artist's creation, through the chromatic impact of the ruby red and through the subtle smoothness of the line. In Christian's painting, the line and its modulations surpass the graphic trend, becoming an "axis mundi" - an axis of revolution in his creative universe. “[Deadline]...at the end of the line...” is a metaphor of the end, a "terminus" leading to the extreme limit of our present in which not knowing or even forgetting the past is the danger of repeating it.
The opening of the exhibition will be followed by an extraordinary concert by Micea Ardeleanu, one of the most internationally renowned professional percussionists, who has dedicated himself exclusively to the promotion of contemporary music.
The public will have free access to the exhibition and to the concert. The exhibition can be visited until Sunday, 27 August. The opening hours of the Museum of Contemporary Art are Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00, Friday and Saturday from 12:00 to 20:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
