We invite you to the Blue House in the Big Square of Sibiu, from May 10, 2023 to discover a different 20th century, told with the help of the pen and artistic mastery! The exhibition 100 artists in 100 years of Romanian art (1900-2000) collection av. George Șerban brings together various artistic trends specific to the century of extremes: Academism, Symbolism, Avant-garde, Art nouveau, Modernism, etc.
Thanks to the collaboration within the Brukenthal Cultural Axes Project - Collection av. George Șerban, the exhibition presents the public one of the largest exhibitions dedicated to Romanian art, including works of painting, graphic works and sculpture by artists such as Aman, Tonitza, Brâncuși, Mutzner, Steriadi, Dobrian, Câlția, Bernea, Brauner, Ilfoveanu, Apostu, Gorduz, Mitroi, Paciurea, Iancuț, Damian, Pacea, Gheorghiu, etc. together with works by representatives of the Kazar School of Graphic Design: State, Dumitrescu, Săftoiu, Guttman, Erceanu, Pusztai, Golici, Panaitescu, Kovascs, etc. From charcoal drawing to ink, from watercolour to graphic design and lithography, from painting to sculpture, the exhibition presents to art lovers works covering over a century.
The works illustrate various and representative themes for Romanian painting of the time: landscapes, still life, portraits but also avant-garde works. All to highlight the Romanian artistic genius, the continuous approach between traditionalism and innovation, each artist putting his mark on the interpretation of the theme, colour or light.
The exhibition represents an important event to promote some of the Romanian artists of the last half of the 20th century.
