Text from the exhibition curator:
Before the emergence of the consumer society, the fruits of nature, creatures and food were essential goods. Art gave them additional value, turning them into symbols of wealth and moderation. Today, artistic images are as current as they were before: they ask the modern viewer whether his living style is reasonable or wasteful.
Paintings and graphic works of the 17th and 18th century open an world in which objects though painted with great realism, hide our ancestors ideas about how life should be lived and how the riches of nature must be used.
