Gentle Violence allows our access into a less known and often feared world which, due to its association with pain, is regarded with restraint, despite the act of salvation that it involves. However, Cristina Bobe’s photographs reveal us the fascinating world of the operating room and surgical intervention. She captures the elegance and delicacy of the surgical gestures, as well as the artistic, the emotion, the diversity of feelings and the chromatic richness in the apparently rigid scientific world. We are challenged to rediscover our body in an unusual, intrusive manner. However, once we accept the challenge, the complexity and the unreal, unimagined beauty of our anatomical self is revealed, both on a microscopic and macroscopic level. All these are presented through the photographs illustrating the heart’s delicate structures, made by Dr. Horia Mureșian. Recreating the sounds of the operating room through a special soundtrack, Sebastian Florea manages to entirely transpose us in the surgical atmosphere. Empathically, we witness our own surgery! Gentle Violence is an exhibition which aims to transmit strong emotions, stimulate our senses, educate, raise questions and, last but not least, provoke debates.
