Misogyny is the hatred of women. At its core, it's about controlling and punishing women for not respecting patriarchal norms and expectations.
Signs to identify a misogynist: he views women as objects whose job is to be aesthetically pleasing. He is always looking to blame women for his problems. He has strong ideas about gender roles and believes that men should be in power positions; is uncomfortable with successful women, believes that women are out to take something from him. He participates in "locker room talks" that are characterized by vulgar and demeaning comments towards women. Guys like this will say things like "boys will be boys."
A misogynist can be extremely competitive with women; his behavior toward them in general is grandiose, controlling, and self-centered. He will treat women differently from men in workplace and social settings, allowing men liberties that are not allow to female colleagues.
