Text from the curators:

825 years of existence for the city of Sibiu is a period rich in facts, figures, institutions, premieres and events that have made the city on the banks of river Cibin to be known worldwide.
Dated in 1191 and first mentioned by the name Cibinium in 1192, Sibiu has experienced rapid development in the Transylvanian area.
Today we speak about Sibiu as an important cultural, tourist and economic center, based on centuries of history that marked the life of the city.
Achieved through the combined efforts of several institutions of the city, the exhibition presents the premiere document from the Vatican Secret Archives, dated 1192-1196, which mentions for the first time Sibiu - Cibinium. The facsimile document was received following the request of the Sibiu County Department of National Archives, through the efforts of Dr. Alexiu Tatu, Head of the Department. Also, objects that belonged to Metropolitan Andrei Șaguna: his Eucharistic chalice, thee decree appointing him bishop, a prayer book in manuscript are first exhibited at the show. Also on display are clay pots discovered in Sibiu, dated from the first half of the 13th c., maps, coins issued in Sibiu, documents, graphics and paintings illustrating the life of the city and its inhabitants.
The present exhibition of art and objects is part of the series of events celebrating 825 years of documentary attestation of Sibiu.
