IN DETAIL

22 Jul, 2013

On July 26, on the occasion of Samuel von Brukenthal’ birthday, the access to visitors in Brukenthal Palace is free of charge!
Samuel von Brukenthal was born in Nocrich, on July 26, 1721, to the judge-royal Michael Brekner, being baptized Carl Samuel.
The Brekner family, known for consecrating a line of judges, originated from an ancient farmers’ family. Michael Brekner evinced himself as loyal servant of the House of Habsburg during the final stage of anti-Habsburg uprising in Hungary, being reworded by Charles VI with the hereditary noble title von Brukenthal in 1724.
Sussana von Heyendorff, the second wife of Michael Brekner, was born in a lesser German-Saxon nobility, her family being ennobled as early as 1696.
Samuel was the seventh son and the youngest in von Brukenthal family which reunited a daughter from Michael’s first marriage along other four sisters and a brother.
