Exhibition: Upcycled
Location: The Museum of Natural History, Str. Cetatii 1

Duration: 25.04 – 26.05.2013

Opening: April 25, 12:30 am

Curator: Dana Roxana Hrib
Opened under the motto "Small Acts Transform the World”, the exhibition is the result of an experiment that aims at demonstrating how through the means of creativity, waste materials or useless products could be converted into products of better quality or for the better environmental value, even having a decorative role.

The first recorded use of the term "Upcycling” was in 1994 by Reiner Pilz. Since then, upcycling became the opposite of downcycling in the recycling process, meaning that downcycling involves converting materials and products into new materials of lesser quality, while upcycling converts materials into better quality products.

Following the idea, the exhibition displays jewelry and decorative arrangements made out of plastic forks and spoons, tin cans, tin can tops and pull tabs, wood waste, nail polish bottles, disquette hubs, coins and common stone.

Addressed especially to women, the Upcycled experiment issues an invitation to a new approach in household recycling, one that defines feminine personality as modern, up to date and creative in self-manifestations.
